2006 Meet The Accountants Night Held

The Williams Center was filled to the brim with accountants young and old. Excited professionals-to-be in the traditional and expected dark suits were everywhere. Over fifty Fredonia State accounting majors mingled with firm partners and staff at the 2006 Meet The Accountants Night from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Wednesday, September 27. A brief, pre-event reception was held for faculty and administration to welcome our guests to campus. President Dennis Hefner included amongst his remarks the recent appointment of Tracy Collingwood as the new Internship Coordinator for the entire campus and invited employers to take advantage of this new Career Development Office (CDO) service. Each attendee received a copy of the 2006 Fall Fredonia State Accounting Look Book, a compilation of the résumés of our junior and senior accounting majors.

Accounting Society Holds 9/26/06 General Meeting

The Fredonia State Accounting Society held its general meeting at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 26 in room S104 of the Williams Center. Guest speaker, Sham Bahgat CPA '88, spoke about the challenges and joys of "Owning and Operating Your Own CPA Firm". Sham and his wife, Louann Laurito-Bahgat CPA '88, are partners in the Fredonia firm of Bahgat & Laurito-Bahgat, CPAs. Both Sham and Louann are 1988 graduates of Fredonia State's accounting program.

2006 Fall Edition of Look Book In The Works

The 2006 Fall Edition of the Look Book was printed this past week. This publication of the Fredonia State Accounting Program is a compilation of the résumés of our junior and senior accounting majors. It is made available in a printed version and digitally in a PDF file format version to potential employers and internship sponsors who may wish to employ our accounting majors. First copies go to those who attend our annual Meet The Accountants Night (MTAN) which will be held this year on Wednesday, September 27. Two weeks following, copies will be mailed to those who were invited to MTAN, but where unable to attend, who requested a copy. Subsequently, it is made available by individual requests and is released in PDF format online. You may wish to view past copies for Fall 2005 and Fall 2004.

Paper Published in 2006 AIBE Proceedings

Dr. Linda Hall and I just receive notice that our paper “Are We Short-Changing Accounting Majors?” has been accepted for presentation at the Academy of International Business and Economics 2006 Annual Conference in Las Vegas. Linda will travel to Las Vegas in October to present this paper. In addition, it will be published in the AIBE 2006 Conference Proceedings.
